Answer to Beware Older Brothers

Correct answer is D. The area indicated is the anatomical snuff box. Sensory to this region is by the superficial radial nerve, a branch of the radial nerve. Given the possible answers, and the fact that fractured occurred in the arm and ultimately led to wrist drop, the most likely scenario is that the profunda brachial artery where it accompanies the radial nerve in the triangular interval is at most risk. The superficial branch of the radial nerve is widely separated from the radial artery in the upper one third of the forearm, closely related to radial artery in the middle third of the forearm, and in the lower third, it descends in the forearm under the tendon of brachioradialis. However, it was the arm that broke, not the bones of the forearm.

Answer to this question is based on material presented in lecture 5 and 6 of the upper limb series.
