Woodstock: Hitchhiker’s Nightmare

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young played at the original Woodstock in 1969, and later wrote a song about a hitchhiker of the galaxies on his way to Yasgur’s Farm (the site for Woodstock). The hitchhiker had a difficult time being picked up by fellow travelers because, although he could partially extend his arm, he was unable to make the universal sign for being collected by a VW van, extending the thumb. Ultimately, a friendly co-traveler did stop and asked the hitchhiker where he was going and the response was, “I don’t know who I am, but life is for learning and we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.” Clearly he was heading to Woodstock and indeed, he spent a wet weekend listening to rock ‘n roll. Upon his return, the hitchhiker asked his parents why his thumb was unable to extend as those of other people, and the mother mentioned that he had been delivered in a barn after a difficult labor. Her partner at the time notice the protruding arm at the birth and yanked on it before she was ready. Apparently, the hitchhiker sustained an injury to his “arm” that manifested in his inability to extend the thumb. Based on this scenario, what is the location of the nerve injured during delivery that led to the hitchhiker’s deficit?
