Woodstock: Hitchhiker’s Nightmare

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young played at the original Woodstock in 1968, and later wrote a song about a hitchhiker of the galaxies on his way to Yasgur’s Farm (the site for Woodstock). The hitchhiker had a difficult time being picked up by fellow travelers because, although he could partially extend his arm, he was unable to make the universal sign for being collected by a VW van, extending the thumb. Ultimately, a friendly co-traveler did stop and asked the hitchhiker where he was going and the response was, “I don’t know who I am, but life is for learning and we got to get ourselves back to the garden.”
